I’m pleased when people want to translate my books, and I want to make this as straightforward as possible. But please note that I don’t have much time to dedicate to helping with any translations.
Books:
You’re welcome to translate any of my books. A few things to know before you start:
Please let me know if you are going to start on a translation.
However, I can’t be involved until you have a complete, final manuscript ready.
When you send a finished manuscript I’ll read it and decide whether to proceed. Please note this is a risk for you – if I don’t want to proceed then it’s a lot of wasted time!
I will share a standard percentage of sales with you (contact me). But I have no audience outside of English-speakers, so the book will not sell enough to make up for the time a translation will take (unless you have your own audience). Translate because you love the material!
If I know someone else is already working in your language, I’ll mention it when you get in touch. The first publication-ready final manuscript I receive is the one I’ll work with.
Re: LLMs (AI). It seems sensible to use LLMs for assisting with translation work, but do not use them to write the translation.
The Sciatica Guide:
If you want to translate the free patient cartoon, you’re very welcome to. Send me an email and I’ll send you the Krita source files. Beyond that I’m afraid I cant help — putting it together, formatting, distributing — is all on you!
